What to do in Lyon
There are so many great attractions to see in Lyon. The festival of lights is probably the most popular event that is held in the city each year. The event spans over four days and is held around the 8th of December each year. The city literally lights up in honour of the golden statue of the Virgin Mary.
The best way to see what the city has to offer is by taking a self-guided walking tour. This will allow you to see many of the beautifully architecture buildings, such as those in the Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon). A walk through Lyon’s Chinatown will display an array of different shops and restaurants. There are several museums worth seeing while in Lyon, including the Musee d’Art Contemporain de Lyon and the Gadagne Museum, which houses both the history museum and the Museum of World Puppets.
Lyon Saint-Exupery Airport
Lyon Saint-Exupery Airport is located about 25 kilometres from the centre of Lyon, and is about the same distance away from Grenoble. It is a large airport that has dozens of flights landing and departing from the airport every day including flights from Birmingham to Lyon. The airport includes many of the necessities that travellers need such as restaurants, bars, shops, a post office, money exchange booths, and a business centre. There is also a travel agent located within the airport to help passengers with any of their travel needs.
The new Rhonexpress rail system was designed to help passengers travel more efficiently throughout the city of Lyon. The train takes about 30 minutes to the central metro station with trains leaving every 10 to 30 minutes. The train terminal can easily be found by following the red markers located throughout the airport. Taxis are located just outside terminal one and numerous car hire services are also located at the airport, including Budget, Avis, Hertz, and Sixt.
